Impressionism in Music

Posted By

Day 16

Shortly after the visual artists began exhibiting their work,  people in other arts disciplines began trying to incorporate impressionist principles into their work.

Claude Debussy began composing Impressionist music.
Debussy was just as influenced by other art forms as he was by music, if not more so. He took a strong interest in literature and visual art, and used these mediums to help shape his unique musical style.

“I love music passionately. And because I love it, I try to free it from barren traditions that stifle it. It is a free art gushing forth, an open-air art boundless as the elements, the wind, the sky, the sea. It must never be shut in and become an academic art.”
Claude Debussy
